At the heart of every successful outdoor project is listening to the people who use the space every day. During our garden makeovers, tenants worked alongside our team to design an outdoor area that reflects their ideas, supports wellbeing and creates a place everyone can enjoy.
Before the work started
From the very beginning, tenants were involved in shaping the project. They shared what was important to them and helped create a vision for a practical, welcoming outdoor space that could be used for relaxing, socialising, growing vegetables and gardening.
Before the makeover could begin, extensive groundwork was carried out to level the uneven area and create an accessible space. Once the foundations were in place, the transformation really began.
Ground works and outdoor makeover
The new garden now features a new boundary fence and gate, bin screen, low-maintenance artificial grass, and tarmac pathway providing a clean and easy to maintain area for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
One of the tenants bought a small summerhouse that has been installed. The dedicated seating and dining area has created the perfect place for tenants to eat together, spend time with others or simply enjoy being outdoors.
Raised planting beds have been installed at the tenants’ request. Everyone can grow herbs, vegetables and seasonal flowers along with new and existing plants.
Beautifully designed garden with the help our tenants
The finishing touches were chosen by our tenants. They selected the colour for the newly painted feature walls, and hanging baskets were added to the wall at their request, while potted plants placed around the space bring colour all year round. This is a garden designed by our tenants, for our tenants.
Our tenants said, “Our new garden is amazing. We all really like it and love spending time out here now. It feels so relaxing, and the newly painted walls make the garden look bigger. The plants look beautiful too.”
Peter Aviston, Managing Director added, “This project shows what we can achieve when we work closely with tenants and our care provider partner. By listening to tenants’ ideas and involving them at every stage, we’ve created an outdoor space that feels welcoming, practical and shaped around what matters to the people who live here. It’s not just a garden makeover; it’s a space that supports independence, brings people together and helps tenants enjoy their home even more.”
The garden is now a place for tenants to come together, whether that is sharing a meal outdoors, tending to the beds or simply enjoying being outside.
Special thank you
A special thank you to our tenants and the care team at Valorum Care. This project has taken eight months. From the first meeting, the designing, and preparation, doing the extensive ground works to holding the event during summer time. We would like to thank you for your time and support. We are delighted that our tenants now have a beautiful outdoor space for many years to come.
